Zoomed Out! How to Create Balance in the Age of Screens

Zoomed Out! How to Create Balance in the Age of Screens

In this pandemic stricken world ,one doesn't know for how long this new normal, work form from home will continue. There are many people out there who are just stuck wherever they are. It's quite hilarious how a one month trip/stay becomes half yearly plan. Unbelievable!!

Screen Mania

In this digital world, the screen time is bursting at an exponential rate. This becomes more intense during Covid-19. There are always two sides of a coin. On one hand, when this high-level connectivity made possible the presence of schools, yoga classes, best of the trainers, and influential persons in our bedroom, though in the mobile/ laptop screen. On the other hand, increased screen time is having adverse effects on our one of the most important sense organs, that are our eyes.👀

I heard about average screen time leaping up from 3 to 4 hours a day to 8 to 9 hours a day which is a fatal condition.

Zoom

I don't know why they name that zoom, but that conferencing tool is helping many fellows to attend online lectures, meetings, webinars and many more.

Zoom Fatigue

The eye strain, back pain, mental stress, insecurity towards our appearance, desperation about background during incessant hours of zoom meetings make us exhausted, this tiredness is known as zoom fatigue. Yeah…...but don't be a conventional person. There are many tiny things which if we keep in mind, we can counter all these problems. Let's dive into some hacks which help you take help of this positive side of technology without having Zoom Fatigue.

1. Turn off self view mode

The thing which distracts us the most is our own appearance during meetings. It not only distracts our mind but it also alleviates our concentration.

2. Listen more, watch less

I know, this might sound absurd to some people, but yeah it's true. In maximum meetings one thing we can do is sometimes only hear the admin unless he or she presents something. I know that can lessen the memorizing power (since audio- visual input retains for more time in our mind) but at the same time it decreases 50% of zoom meetings time. Now you have to decide what are your priorities? Eyes or memory!!

3. Take short breaks

The most important part. Having short breaks, be it in relationships, be it from work,be it from our sitting hours are always beneficial. Try to take a break, leave your place, roam about your house, give some stretches to your muscles.

4. Try some natural things

Triphala churna: One of the best ingredients of triphala is amlaki or amla, which is known for being the best sources of vitamin C. It helps prevent the development of cataract. Amla: Amla has one of the most important antioxidants called vitamin C. It not only helps boost immunity, but also strengthens your eyesight.

A 2012 study that tested filtered aloe vera extract on human corneal cells found evidence that aloe vera may contain properties that can help reduce eye inflammation and dryness. Want to know more about best ayurvedic products

5. Proper lighting should be there

Have proper lighting in the room.Avoid using screen in the darkness.

6. 20-20-20 rule for eyes

Its states that - Basically, every 20 minutes spent using a screen, you should try to look away at something that is 20 feet away from you for a total of 20 seconds.Try giving exercise to your eyeballs, give them clockwise and anticlockwise rounds, move them side to side.

7. Phone is still an option

For informal talks, try to avoid official zoom meetings. You can have a simple conference call with your family and friends.Try using phone calls whenever possible.

8. Make a screen schedule

As we used to call "daily schedule" now I think it should be called "screen schedule". Try to add someone non screen activities in between. They might include cooking, eating, drawing, walking, listening to songs (or podcasts), short exercises and many more….

 9. Have weekend off

Have one day off in your working week. It will rejuvenate you for the upcoming tasks.

So these were some hacks by us that can be inculcated in your routine. Let me know how they work or any more you want to add in this list .Would love to hear!!

Stay connected!
