Oily Skin and Moisturizers: Do they go together?

Oily Skin and Moisturizers: Do they go together?

Do you have oily skin?

You may think that your skin is well hydrated and not use a moisturizer, whilst it is just oily. Skin oil is the waxy substance, called sebum, secreted by sebaceous glands. Skin hydration is the process wherein water is absorbed into the layers of the skin to maintain its elasticity, plumpness, and resiliency.

Excessive sebum leads to oily skin and acne, which means that the skin is not well hydrated. Let’s be clear: not only dry skin needs hydration; oily skin needs to use a great moisturizer like Asaagat’s Aloe Vera Moisturizing Cream just as much as any other skin type.

We understand that adding a moisturizer on top of an already greasy skin can be intimidating, but as long as you pick the right one, moisturizers can be the MVP of your skincare routine. All you have to do is look for oil-free formulas that will give your skin the hydration it requires.

Moisturizers don’t add water to your skin, but rather help hold the water in the skin to keep it hydrated. How do they do that? They contain ingredients called humectants, which draw the water into your skin, and emollients, which form a protective film and trap the water in the skin.

The bottom line is that hydrated skin is healthy skin. Without ample moisture, the appearance and protective function of the skin can be severely compromised. Dehydration poses a greater risk of inflammation, infection, wrinkles, and premature aging. It even increases the risk of breakouts.

Here’s a tip- Always apply your moisturizer while your skin is still damp, such as after a shower or after washing your face. This timing will trap the water in your damp skin.
